Old Testament Survey
A study of the Old Testament is foundational to the study of the entire word of God. Want to know where it all started? What is our purpose? You have to go to the Old Testament. Doctrines such as sin and salvation, man and his mandates, Jewish nation of Israel and their significance, blood sacrifices and their purpose, the kingdom and the Christ all find their foundational teachings in the Old Testament. The New Testament is built on the foundation of events, characters, laws, covenants and promises of Old Testament. Jesus is the theme of both the Old and the New Testament and we find a progressive revelation of the character and purposes of our Lord and Savior.
Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
The prophecies foretold in the Old Testament and fulfilled througout history and the New Testament reveal why the Bible is unique among holy books-it alone is able to demonstrate that it is what it claims to be: the inspired Word of God.
Most important, we are instructed to learn from the events, characters, mandates of the Old Testament.
Romans 15:4 Whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for out learning that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
